Since we have been in the business for over 30 years we have learned that every client's needs differ for disability insurance. No two are ever the same. If you can't afford to take a month off of work or be away from your own business for a month then you need to purchase disability insurance coverage. Disability insurance policies are the most overlooked coverages.
I will also tell you from an agent's perspective disability insurance is probably one of the most difficult policies to obtain on an individual basis. Some companies specialize in white-collar workers and others specialize in blue-collar workers. If it is a small employer of 2 people or more then Group disability may be a strong recommendation because it is Guaranteed Issue. One of the most crucial things an agent has to do is to make sure that our client is put into the correct occupational classification.

Although we represent a multitude of companies we have never found any company that can accurately quote a disability insurance policy over the internet, there are just too many variables. Therefore we have taken our disability insurance quoting system down for now until we find a company that has a site where when someone prints out a quote, they can actually get a disability insurance policy issued at the original premium quoted. There is a learning curve that every client must understand.
